ABOUT NIE
The Seattle Times Newspapers In Education Program supports K — College grade level education by providing newspapers and newspaper-based curricula to classrooms in our four-county delivery area.
Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis to educators in more than 49 school districts in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. Curricula programs are categorized into the following disciplines: Literacy, Journalism, Current Events, Science, Life Skills and Other. Most curricula have been matched to the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements. In addition, we partner with local organizations such as the World Affairs Council, Woodland Zoo, Seattle University, Pacific Science Center and Seattle Mariners to design creative, fun and educational programs to use with the newspaper.
Throughout the year a number of relevant, real-world learning opportunities are presented. Educators may register for individual programs lasting four to ten weeks or opt for newspapers on a daily or weekly basis during the entire school year. We also have NEW Sunday Programs that integrate the Sunday newspaper into learning.
