SPONSORSHIP/FUNDING
What are funded newspapers?
The demand for Newspapers In Education (NIE) newspapers has been tremendous. The main source of funding for sponsored newspapers is the Vacation Donation Program, wherein a subscriber opts to give as a gift to NIE any credit due for vacation stops. These amounts are usually small to the subscriber, but when multiplied by many subscribers, it becomes significant enough to provide newspapers for most of the classroom requests.
We partner with businesses or individuals in a number of ways to provide newspapers as well. Companies may sponsor an entire program, adopt schools/classrooms, or make monetary contributions to The Seattle Times Literacy Fund through The Seattle Foundation. Any donations made through the Foundation are tax-deductible. To help support our community NIE programs, The Seattle Times contributes more than $500,000 per year in costs.
The NIE program has developed several partnerships with local and national corporations from banks to professional sports teams to bring additional newspapers into local classrooms. Corporate sponsors' logos are always included in the teacher promotional materials and advertising.
You can put your firm in the company of many fine businesses that have contributed to this worthy cause. Contact us at nie@seattletimes.com for further information on this program.
