The World Affairs Council is a Washington State based organization that creates forums for discussion on critical world issues. This site provides programs, resources, and activities that support educators as they teach about world issues. Programs offered include Global Classroom and The World Affairs Fellows Program.

A Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) special news page for students and educators that covers the crisis in Iraq and other top news stories. Highlights include student editorials, an online newshour, and current event lesson plans for educators.

Teaching Tolerance
This site focuses on ways to fight hate and promote tolerance. There are individual pages for teens, kids, parents, and teachers, each with its own special focus. Other areas of interest include stories of hate and tolerance in the news as well as a special discussion forum called Mix It Up, where teens can share their own opinions and experiences about hate, tolerance and crossing social boundaries.

rethinkingschools.org — This site focuses on current events and provides teaching guides and activities to use in the classroom. Since its founding in 1986, it has grown into a nationally prominent publisher of educational materials, with subscribers in all 50 states, all 10 Canadian provinces, and many other countries. It remains firmly committed to equity and to the vision that public education is central to the creation of a humane, caring, multiracial democracy. While writing for a broad audience, Rethinking Schools emphasizes problems facing urban schools, particularly issues of race.

aboutourkids.com — This site is sponsored by The NYU Child Study Center, a multi-disciplinary team of professionals dedicated to advancing the field of mental health for children and their families through evidence-based practice, science and education. Their vision is to change the face of child mental health by improving the practices of professionals serving children, influencing public policy concerning children and being the premier source of information for all those caring about children. Much of the research for the NIE "Helping Our Children Cope with the Effects of War" came from this site.
